Using SOA, they have implemented a legacy encapsulation platform which exposes legacy systems as web services. They then have a BT enterprise service bus to provide an interface between the platforms; a hub platform to run workflow between the applications; and an application server platform that is a Java platform for building new services.

Verizon

The company was formed after a merger.  They realized that many of their core business functions were implemented anywhere from five to 30 times across different applications.  Verizon set out to use SOA to reduce support costs by consolidating these core functions from 20 or 30 implementations to one or three
